Vanlife is so great, it gives you so much freedom. If you find a spot that you like, you can just stay there as long as you want and even call that place your home. However, the biggest question is how to find the best spots to park your van?
It’s not as hard as it seems, and there are many ways to find great locations. You just have to do your research and choose the right places. The hardest part is to know where to start. When we left for our trip we have already spoken to some friends who have lived in their vans so we did have an idea. Let me share with you what I’ve learned from them and from our time on the road.
The best way to find a great spot is to use apps. There are hundreds of apps for different We mainly use Park4night app and it’s something I would recommend to any beginner in vanlife! First of all this app is for free, but you can also get a paid version for 9.99 euro per year. This apps is so easy to use. You can find all types of places. Whether you are looking for a day parking in a city or an overnight spot surrounded by nature or a regular campsite. It’s a big vanlife community that uses this app so you can even read the reviews and write them yourself about the places you like or dislike.
What we most use Park4night for:
- parking lot day/night
- parking surrounded by nature
- drinking water and laundry
- public toilets
- locations with 3G/4G internet (this filter is only available in the paid version)
I could not recommend this app enough! It’s the best thing when you’re traveling with a van. Try out Park4night yourself!
Another app that you can use to find camping spots is iOverlander. This app seems more popular in the US, however they also have maps and places for European countries so it’s worth checking out too. We haven’t used it much but I have looked through the maps to see if you are able to use it in the European countries.
If you are not that into technology and apps, just drive and I’m sure you’ll find something on your way! We’ve met people who just found a location while browsing on a map.
